Is an upgrade possible for me now??

Hi all,

I'm running an SMF 1.1 RC2 site (http://toonsandcomics.com). Is it possible to upgrade from this version directly to the latest version? Can I do it from the package manager? I had installed an "SMF 1.1 RC2 Security Patch - 2" so hope that doesn't affect things.

BTW. I have quite a few mods which I probably will have to restore manually (file by file) :(
Username Tag, User Email System, CAPTCHA (code verification), Users Online Today Mod, Tabular, Create Topic on Report to Moderator, Spoiler Tag, Googlebot & Spiders Mod, Search Topic, Reason For Editing Mod, Custom Profile Mod, Tagging System.

Things are running fine, but I notice that a lot of security related fixes/enhancments have been made. The only reason I need to upgrade is to prevent my site from getting hacked (though its rare if it happens, it's a pain). I miss nothing from my 1.1 RC2 (got all I need through the mods I mentioned).

You cannot upgrade via Package Manager, but you can upgrade via the Manual Way(See Upgrading)
This will make you loose all your mods and you can install them again though(I recommend looking over Mod site for newer Versions)

OK, Thanks.

I guess more than the mods, my theme is going to be really hard to restore... Will have to see what best way to go about it. Thanks.

We recommend upgrading for security reasons as well. Make a backup of your files and the database beforehand in case things don't work out :)

Yes correct, but I have a totally crazy idea. Upgrading SMF with custom theme and mod has been a real headache for me. I'm a kernel programmer but I know next to nothing about MySQL/PHP etc.

I was wondering if I should convert to MyBB. My brother told me MyBB stores the themes (in the database like vBulletin) as just CSS/XML or some such thing and does NOT mess with the PHP code and because of this upgrade does not affect the theme & it's really very clean and seperates the theme from the code, unlike SMF.

Is the latest SMF any different? Because each and every upgrade with my heavily modded theme and mods is gonna be a pain for a n00b like me. And some mods won't have the latest versions, some will, etc.

I am however very satisfied with my current mods + base SMF, especially the permissions system, but I hate to keep an old version going.

Any suggestions?

As said you should upgrade for
1. Bug and Security Fixed
2. Compatibility to newer Mods and themes
Now As Far as your theme is concerned, you can manually upgrade it. A guide to all the changes took place is here somewhere.(Like From RC2 to RC3 then RC3 to 1.1 Final and so on).
The current theme won't be touched since it only overwrites the files of BabyLon,YabbSE Classic and SMF Default Theme Core.
