Neither SMF nor Joomla Sends emails after upgrading to 1.1.4

Hello I;m using joomla 1.0.12, com_smf 1.7 and SMF 1.1.4 .
(I think that) since the smf upgrade, Neither SMF nor Joomla Sends autamatic emails to the user when they have private messages or the admins when a new member has joined .
Any advise what I have to do?

I noticed one of my site's has also stopped doing the same
