is_activated = 0 for all new members

Hi everyone.

Rather than let people signup to the forum via the standard registration, i have disabled this and instead populate the database from data entered into my own website registration form. and one of the data we enter is setting is_activated to 1 once they have confirmed their registration.

But something wierd is happening and is_activated=0 for all new registrations. Not just some. But All?

My question is whether there is a default setting in SMF that will overide me setting is_activated=1 and set it back to 0? could this happen if the user has logged in? and if so is there another field in the members table i have to populate to stop is_activated being set back to 0?
