database error message..need help

I get the following when I try to enter my forum

Database Error
Got a packet bigger than 'max_allowed_packet'
File: /home/scorp/public_html/yabbse/Sources/Subs.php
Line: 454 

I have repaired all tables in the database. I am running SMF RC2.(converted from Yabbse 1.5.5). The admin function, search and instant messaging works. However, no index page of the boards will display.
Any ideas??

Are you on dedicated or shared hosting?

Check your my.ini file and see what the  'max_allowed_packet' is set to in the [client] section, would imagine you must have ti set fairly low.

I am a bit ignorant. Would I check that through Cpanel or what?

You need to check through SSH.

I have it set at 2MB. Is that too low?

I suggest you increase it... perhaps 4 or 8 megabytes?
