Hi folks ... my first ever post.  :)

I've been a long term member of a site that uses SMF version 1.1.4

There are quite a number of topics where I USED  to post in ... but quickly lost interest in. Now, every day when I click on 'Show new replies' ..... I have to wade through reams of these unwanted reply alerts.

I am FULLY aware of the 'unsubscribe' option to email notifications ... but this does NOT solve my problem. For one thing ... if I did go down the route of email notifications to topics of interest ... I'd be getting these almost every moment .... so to use that method of topic reply notification .... strikes ME as very unsatisfactory.

I have asked about this problem on the site where I am a member ..... and neither the site administrator nor moderators believe there to be a way to resolve this one. I would LOVE somebody here to tell me there IS a solution / what it is ..... so I can report this one back !

I know it is a MAJOR pain / time waster  for many on the site ..... wading through topics they're no longer interested in !

I think one way was to delete the reply I made in a topic ... this works fine if you only posted once ! The site has members who love to retain ALL their posts ... as a kind of pretend competition with other sites ..... so asking them to go this route will not appeal.

Please help !

:)

Yeah, you think you've got problems.  I get the same issue on here :)

I've always just seen it as a price to pay for the feature as a whole.  But the ability to remove the record of posting relating to specific threads would be great.  This is, I'm sure, a core design feature and function and would probably be best directed in the Feature request section.  Due to it's nature.

This is tied into the user post icon notification feature as well.

I see (I think ) 'Rumbaar' ..

Well, thanks for your response. As a newbie to this site ... I was less than sure about where to start this topic .... not being sure if it WAS a feature request .... or something that had a 'work-around' .....

I did experiment for a few hours ..... copying / modifying bits of code via the url  .... but realised ultimately that it was only the 'unsubscribe' feature that I could play with ....

I was hoping somebody might have a simple hack or something that I could  come up with a 'template' that people could modify for each individual post topic reply alert  they no longer wanted.

Guess it doesn't exist .  :'(

Yeah nothing I'm aware of.  I get dozens of replies in my notifications I wish I could remove also :)

Yeah, sometimes I wish I could tell SMF to forget about topics that have wandered off into some cyberhell flamewar or other uninteresting diversion. How about a per-member blacklist of topics or even boards, stored in the DB as the topic or board number? When generating the "new replies" list for you, the code could check against this list and remove anything that's on the list before presenting the survivors. If you post anew to a blacklisted topic or board, it would automatically be removed from the list. Users would probably appreciate a way to review and edit their "show new replies" blacklist. Maybe there's someone out there itching for a project idea to work on for a mod... The idea might be extended to suppress display of categories, boards, or topics for stuff we're not interested in seeing.

Just click mark all as read... ;D

Unless it's a super busy board this typically reduces the wading to a minimum on the "next" visit.

Indeed it is a pain.
(especially on here with topics in mod packages topics)

I'd love to see an ignore topic function.

I certainly have been doing that .... for quite some time ....

But unfortunately, have posted in hundreds of topics ...... and the sites' very proud postwhore .... posts numerously in these topics, so almost as fast as I mark these read,  an hour or so later .... I've got several more pages to sort out the 'chiff from the chaff' / the 'husk from the grain' etc; (if you catch my drift ?).   :'( :'(

Gargoyle

Oh no.... ;D

I understand.... I am sure there is a way to do what you want... But the way I understand the code works there really isn't anything already built in to allow it...

You have all unread.. Which is exactly like it sounds
New since last visit which I believe uses time stamp from last visit
And you have new replies which is what you would like to avoid.

From the logic in place it looks like a complete MOD write in my mind. Although I don't understand the code nearly as well as others.

Sorry wish there was better news.
