SMF 1.1.4: New messages for new members incorrect behaviour

Hello all

I'm having a problem in my forum: new users register and when they first login, they see the entire forum with the "new" icons because all the topics are new for them, but when they click the "Read unread messages" link or the icon at the left of the forum title (which has the label "New"), no new message appear.

The only way to make that icons disappear is by reading the entire forum (and so becomes a harder task everyday, thank God ^_^), so some users are complaining. I was wondering if that's a known bug or that behaviour is pretended. I hope you can help me.

EDIT: I made mistake. The new users don't need to open every topic, but only one topic of each forum of each category. It's less important but I think it's not a logical behaviour.

Did you install any mods or made any changes to your forum?

By default, that should take you to unread posts since your last login. Once they login, they don't even need to view all those topics. They can logout and login later and they shouldn't show up anymore unless there were new replies to those same topics.

Oh, and yes, I've installed a couple of mods, but only the ones to create "spoilers" and attach youtube videos. Could it be because of them? :S

Those two mods shouldn't affect it. Test it out yourself and see if you can click on the unread posts since last visit to get any new posts since your last login.
