XMPP address profile field in standard smf distr

I notice that standard profile have only 4 fields for IM networks.

XMPP is used in many different IM systems as core protocol, for example Jabber, Livejournal, GoogleTalk, GizmoProject as production and even AIM/ICQ as new generation protocol (in testing stage for now).

If you really want that, then try the Custom Profile Fields mod http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=319
(Note in future the Custom Profile Fields will be in SMF 2.0 by default).

I hadn't heard of XMPP, and there hasn't been many (if any requests) for it bar yours.
Hence why its usually more appropriate (at least initially) for it to be a mod.

I use custom profile fields for XMPP, but as XMPP pretending to be major IM system in next 1-2 years, I think this field must be in main table.

I agree that this would be a good addition to core although perhaps call it Jabber / Google Talk as not many people would know XMPP

I've actually added both a Jabber field to my forums, and the ability to receive notifications by jabber (in addition to email).

However, I have NO idea how to package it up and make a mod of it.  I'd be more than willing to send my modified files to someone who's able to do that.  I used an existing mod to add the Jabber field, and modified the nofitication functions to call a PERL script which sends message through Jabber.

The only problem with it is that I don't know how to add settings for the account sending the message, they had to be hard coded in the perl script.

XMPP/Jabber/Gtalk can concurrent with ICQ!

Currently it very wide used in open source communities. Look at the signatures in public mailing lists about debian, ubuntu and so one.

Update:  hxxp:qip.ru [nonactive] - very popular ICQ client opens own jabber server.
