    * Do you still have performance issues if you use the default theme?  Yes

(1) eAccelerator was installed but the site continued to have problems post-installation with server loads into the 50s.   My host (hostgator) must have removed it when updating to the latest version of apache/mysql.  They are working on getting it reinstalled today.

(2) I have Mambo installed which has not caused me any problems.

I have contacted my host no less than 50 times in the last month to try to pinpoint the problem.  They reply with statements like:  "you have too many connections to the mysql database" or "contact the SMF administrators to address any problems with the software. 

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What is the contents of your my.cnf file?

Also try apc rather than eAccelerator - http://uk.php.net/apc

Indeed APC is probably a better idea. I noticed that the sticky is quite outdated so I removed the eAccelerator reference and put APC in its place.

Also try switching caching on from the SMF admin area once it is installed if you haven't already.

Some of your mods may also be causing things to slow down as they're not well suited to big boards. I believe the Ad Management mod makes extra queries on every page load. You could look into removing the mod and hardcoding any ad permissions you need instead. We can probably help with this . Some other mods look like they could use lots of extra queries but I've never used them.
