What does it mean in a post when all it says is

Bump.

??

forsakenlad

Well its used to put your topic at the top of the message index. And your question isn't silly but bumping is :)

bumping pushes you to the bottom of the support queue too :P (not as a punishment, but because many of our lists are in reverse chronology.

we ask that bumping not take place within 24 hours.

So, if you post a message/question, and there are no responses in a couple days, is it OK to "Bump" it?

... or is bumping just not really advised at all ?

Dragooon

If there are no responses in 24 hours than it is OK to bump because it will be on 4th page atleast :P

Of course you can.  We aren't against bumping so much as its an annoyance if someone does so every 15-60 minutes. (it has happened many times).

Just to clue you in to how the Team's tools work, they are set up in chronological order from oldest to newest. When you bump a post, you are bumping it further up in the forum, but further down in the Support Team's tools. Bear that in mind, as an old support topic doesn't always mean neglect.

Thanks for the info Eliana ... one of those Ohhhh moments.

So an old support issue is near the top of their list, and the oldest should be AT the top. Makes sense.

How is it affected in a MOD-SUPPORT topic, as far as the MOD-CREATOR ?

The reason I ask, is that I posted a message here:
http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=21029.msg1557778#msg1557778

to the support thread for the Integrated Chat Mod. I assume that in some way, that thread is Moderated by the Author/Creator of the mod.

I had posted over a week ago, and did not see any response. Of course, no one owes me a reply, or a solution for that matter.

I know that many times when people request support, they never re-post to say that their problem is solved. So, a very old issue, doesn't mean the person is still waiting for a solution.

With that in mind, it makes sense to me to periodically re-post (within reason) to let people know your issue is still open.

I guess, after thinking more about it, that simply re-posting a message that says only "Bump.", is not the best idea. Probably better would be to post a message indicating your progress, what you have tried, what more you have discovered, etc ...

Don't be afraid to post new issues. Just don't think that we won't answer an old one.

And that is true, it does help to repost if you are still experiencing the issue, or post to say that it's solved. Though, personally, I tend to hunt down the topics with fewer posts first, so if I see a post with no replies or 1 reply by the topic author, I'll typically answer those first.

I'm sure mod authors try to answer all the questions in their support threads. But if one isn't being addressed, feel free to bring it up again.

Unless things have changed, when a mod or theme is approved, the author has their topic subscribed. Unless they turn this off, they will get an e-mail when there has been a post in it. Keep in mind that many authors are busy, so they might have overlooked the notification. If it is an urgent issue and has been a bit of time, posting a reminder on that topic is perfectly fine for the most part.
