An idea for SMF2.... not sure if this was suggested already, or going to be put in, or what.

What about a feature where the admin can control what themes are available to different usergroups? Some ways this could be useful:

-Admin wants users to have new themes available by rank (New members just have forum default, or certain themes, next rank has more themes, next has more, and so on.)

-Admin wants a "BETA/Feedback" group, and new themes are only usable by the beta group.

-Admin wants users to "apply" for a membership that has extra themes.

Of course, this should not affect "Board themes" - I mean if you have a "guitar theme" that isn't available for users until they get 100 posts, but also have a guitar board that you use it for, all users would still be  able to see it on that forum only.

This could be workable by using a system very similar to the Add New Board page, where there's a checkbox list in the theme settings that allows for the selection of membergroups that can use it.

Just a bump... if it's okay! :)

Just  curious... was this ever looked at/considered?
