Confused about phpBB (2.0.19) to SMF 1.1 RC2

I got tired of phpBB's updates and having to install mods every time (which SMF have as default), so I'm going from phpBB to SMF.

I've just done a fresh install of SMF and everything is ready to start the conversion, but I haven't found a thread with all the needed information. I've found pieces of information in several threads, and they got me confused.

Do I have to download the convert.php on the first post of this thread?

Which is the .sql file that I need to do the conversion?

Is there anything else I should know?

You need the convert.php from that topic and the phpbb2_to_smf.sql file from the 1.1 Converters topic.

Thanks, it has worked like a charm.

One thing though, all the forum sections have to be open (view) to non registered users, otherwise, the conversion won't convert them.

I just tried to convert like this and all messages, user names, titles, forum names, etc. that contain special characters (such as ä,ö,ü,ß) are chopped off right where the special character should be. For example, "Ich weiß nicht" becomes "Ich wei". Can someone help me please?
