Is there or will there be a feature to detect if a person is using more than 1 username?

If you suspect someone is using multiple accounts, you can go to one of their profiles and select either "Track IP" or "Track User" to see whether multiple accounts have posted from the same IP address of the user.

That is 1 way, the hard and long way. A mod would be nice   :) Maybe one for the developers

I am sorry, but I don't know what you are asking for then.

Do you want a generated list in the admin panel showing all the users that have two or more accounts with the same IP address?

Yes, a simple auto detection of more than 1 account,  in the admin panel. I know vBulletin have it.

Aye, this may sound good but there is a problem with NATs and other various network related problems.
Where i stay i use a router to gain access and there is 2 computers on this network right.
So that means i come to your site with MY username and my mate comes round and also logs in from there or my mum/dad/other logs in from the other computer then this Mod that you are asking for chucks up me as a multi and if you other 1000 users and 300 of them are sat behind routers you are going to end up with a long list of "multis"
If your support topic does not have a link i will NOT assist you.
A link is easy to add AND is a massive help very often.
And a login account would be usefull even if its only pass and user =demo and its a normal account its not hard to add those two pieces of information.

I will do edits for you but not for free :) time costs money.

Not to mention that many consumer ISPs rotate pools of IPs. This means the IP you had yeasterday might now be used by someone else down the street, or on the other side of the service area, and next week might jump elsewhere. If you do full historical tracking, you'll eventually get "duplicates" from that practice.

SMF doesn't allow accounts with duplicate e-mail addresses as that is at least more unique to an individual.

Yes, equal IPs don't mean same person or same computer, but you can check that through cookies! vB has one feature (or MOD, I am not sure) that checks if two users are sharing the same computer through the cookies, this is one secure way to check this!

Why not one MOD or even one feature to SMF like this? With big communities is impossible to check if all the banned users have clones! Should be created on feature to doing this work!

SMF 7 is where it gets good. That has time travel. You can go back and post before the guy who flamed you. :P

What about families who sit behind a router AND both use the forum AND use each computer if two of the families log in from same machine doesn't that mean that 2 cookies are on the same machine type of thing.

I said just to identify, not to auto-ban :P

I was Moderator on one vB board and what we did was just verify if one of the usernames where banned and why, if was everything ok we just leave that alert alone :P If was any kind of problem, we checked more details about the usernames involved and we applied (or not) the adequate sanction.
