Yea, I know, I'm not in the least modest ;D
But let me first describe...

I always wonderd, why there are so many different Scripts for Gallery, Forum, Commentig-System and Poll out there, even though the concept is very similar most of the time. Let's look at a picture gallery and a bulletin board:

Topic - Picture
Poll - Poll
Answer - Comment
Topic Index (= Board) - Picture Index (= Gallery)

Board Index(= Category =)Gallery Index
So I thought it shouldn't be a that big deal for some gifted programmers, like you are, to integrate a cool little gallery by adding a switch which determines normal Boards from Galleries (Thumbnails) and normal Topics from Pictures (or any other content). Answers, Polls and Categories will work just the same (and even Rights-Management doesn't have to change).

Another (minor) change should be done, namely to move the poll right under the first post of the topic (which may be a picture with description). But that's not necessarily needed, the order, picture - poll - first post will also look fine.

A more sophisticated Version should also be able to include pictures already located on the server (uploaded via FTP) and/or post more than on picture per topic (picture series or sequences).

As indicated above, this feature isn't restricted to pictures only but can be used for a variety of downloadable content such as, mods, styles, documents, videos, ...
(could be a good improvement for this site also)

So what do you think eh? Greetz, aIZe

[edit] You might say "use Coppermine", but I don't think that bridging an external script will improve the sites using it considerably. Cause unless the Webmaster is a really good one, you'll allways notice that there are two different systems in use which differs the pictures/downloads far away from the forum. Maybe thats not that bad, but bloging scripts show that communication improves when the passiv and aktiv elements are bundled together. Hope you understand what I mean by this.

Possibly because many of us prefer carefully targeted, focused scripts to bloated monsters?

http://www.redandwhitekop.com/forum/ & http://www.redandwhitekop.com/gallery/ don't look excessively different to me. No point creating a whole new gallery script when coppermine has years of work behind it and if stable.

Well, I've had this in my list of to-do's for quite a while, but not the free time for it. It can mostly be done with SMF's theme engine, but there's a mod needed to work right: one to create the thumbnails and also use these in messageindex, which I plan to write soon.

Any updates on this yet? I'm very interested in such a mod, unfortunately, I suck at PHP and stuff, so I can't make it myself :(

Although I've been pretty busy lately, I already started doing some work on this. I remember also having read recently a post made by Midgard, saying that he's working on something similar. Either way, there'll be something available soon if all goes well. :)

Yes, I also would love to see an image gallery within the forums and not using coppermine.
