Screen Resolution And Themes

Hi,

I recently downloaded and installed a theme and added buttons for Gallery and Bakers Dozen, mods that I had installed.

What happened was that at a screen resolution of 1024x768, the last two buttons, "Members" and "Logout" were missing. I could only see those buttons when I reset my screen to a resolution of 1152x864 or higher.  Off course that meant that I had to scroll left/right to view the entire page. I never had this problem before with other themes.

Is there something in style.css that I can adjust to suit viewing at 1024x768 resolution? Or do I have to adjust some other file?

I am using SMF 1.1.8 with TP 1.0.6 beta 2 and SMF Media Gallery, Bakers Dozen and Anti Spam mods installed

The best method to achieve the desired effect is to set the width to percentages. While your question is valid, asking here without providing the theme in question won't be of much value to you or to other readers (or to anyone using that theme).

Thanks mashby for your response.

The theme in question is FSPS. Someone else had a look at it and for him it turned out okay because his screen resolution was set larger than 1024x768.

I understand setting width in percentages but wouldn't all the themes or at least the newer ones use that?

Regards.

I just want to add on here is that at the beginning of the year, I had downloaded and installed this FSPS theme on another site without any problems, and now I am having this resolution problems.

The only thing that has changed is that SMF went from 1.1.7 to 1.1.8. I am not suggesting that, that is the problem but I really don't understand it.

Thanks.

The thing that changed is that by adding those tabs you increased the width of the menu. Most likely this theme uses a set width instead of a percentage width. The best solution would be to ask in the theme support thread here on the theme site or on the TP site (where ever you downloaded the theme). Since it is a custom theme the theme author can tell you how to set this better then anyone. Also, please understand the a % width will not work with all themes as it may break the widths of some images if the theme uses a wrapper etc.
PM at your own risk, some I answer, if they are interesting, some I ignore.

Thanks Tyrsson,

Yes, if I remove the tabs, the theme appears normal. But on my first use (about a month ago) I downloaded and use this theme with the exact same mods and there was no such problem.

I have raised this with the theme author over at the TP site but haven't got a response yet. Hopefully soon.
