Fatal Error Fun - Small problem w/ SSI, please help.

Using the SSI to make a portal like thing out of my home page I get this:

Fatal error: Cannot create references to/from string offsets nor overloaded objects in /home/scriptco/public_html/forum/Sources/Load.php on line 1299

line 1299-> $context['user']['name'] = &$txt[28];
else

This only started happening when I moved to my new server. This error seems to only effect the ssi_welcome(); code.

Try to change &$txt[28] to $txt[28]

Thanks but:
Notice: Uninitialized string offset: 28 in /home/scriptco/public_html/forum/Sources/Load.php on line 1294
is the new problem. I think i'll just reinstall smf as just reuploading my back up onto a new server (with a different config) probably messed it up.
