General Question about images

I am using RC1 and have been using the default theme.  I am getting help in another thread for support on a specific mod, but I had a general question about images while I wait for that support.

I am using .ico files for some images which are placed on the board index of the forum.  They appear fine in Firefox, but they do not show up in IE 7 at all.  Instead, I get that nasty boxed "X" telling me the image is absent.

As suggested, I did change my .ico files to another format to see if it would correct the problem.  I changed them to .gif and even .png, but still had the same results, so I don't think it has anything to do with them being .ico format.

Generally speaking, What would make an image show fine in firefox and not in IE?

Did you converted the icons or just renamed the files? Maybe IE7 can not really display icon files if used in an IMG tag.

Interesting... can we get a link?  Often a quick look at the HTML being sent out will solve the problem.

That's the forum.  It isn't active yet for people, so it is bare as far as posts.  Click on the FORUM tab in firefox and then look at it in IE.  You'll see what images I am talking about.  I'm not talking about attachments inside of posts.

(I put the images back the way they were with the .ico for all of the board icons)

I didn't see this when I replied.  That's a probable cause.

IE7 displays my favicon.ico without problems.  If it were the file type, then I don't think that would display correctly.

Well, the thing is browsers should expect the favicon to be an .ico.  But it may be different when they're within an img tag.

I got it working with .png images.  It didn't work the other day in IE w/ .png, but I opened the .ico files again and saved them as .png a second time using Gimp and like magic they work the second time around.  I have no clue why they didn't work the first time around.  Who knows.  But, it's working.  Thanks for the replies!
