I'm trying to integrate a mailing list system with YabbSE (and eventually SMF).  I can't find ANY information on the database layout.  While I could puzzle it out myself, I'd much rather get a database layout/definitions/schema which I could work from.

Thanks in advance

Have a look in the .sql file in the YaBBSE safe mod zip.

The SMF schema is only for charter members right now, so you will have to become a charter member to get a copy of SMF and it's schema.

Will there be a way to convert a YabbSE forum to SMF?

There already is! ::)

So who seriously thinks the YaBB SE team would be developing another forum if it wasn't going to be compatible?

linuxgurugamer

Ok.  Now, I've done a little hacking of YabbSE for my own use.  This includes adding a column to a table.  Will I be able to port this over to SMF?

Thanks.  That helps, but it would also be nice if there was an explanation for how things relate to each other.

basically mods wont work, but it shouldn't be too hard to port basic ones over... its gonna be very powerful (SMF), so just wait till its released and see what you can do.

Well, what I need is a system which does what Yahoo! Groups does.  I'm doing it by integrating the Mailman mailing list program with YaBBSE.  So far I've had to make one database change and one set of changes in one file of YaBBSE.

Will SMB have this capability built in?

What is SMB?

I don't know what Yahoo! Groups! "does"....

Spaceman-Spiff

i think he wants a mailing list program, like mailman

SMF will have a 1-way mailing feature, just like YaBB SE, more like a newsletter feature
building a mailing list like Mailman in php will be pretty hard and wont fall into the scope of SMF (a bulletin board system)

Actually, I'm in the process of integrating Mailman with YabbSE.  This requires minor changes to YabbSE, and no changes to Mailman.

I saw in the boards on the YabbSE site that other people besides myself would like to do this, so once it is working properly I'll probably make the changes and the interface program available.

Yahoo groups allows you to subscribe to receive posts via email, and reply to them and have them posted to the group.

Would be a really cool feature to be able to reply to posts via email.

linuxgurugamer

Yup!!!

That is part of the functionality I'm working on for YaBBSE.

I need both.  I want/need a web forum/bbs like this one which is integrated with a mailing list.  I am trying to come up with a package which will replace Yahoo! Groups for a couple of groups I run.

My server has a zero tollerance for spam.  They only allow a board like YaBB or SMF to send to one address at a time from the server.  What are some good hosts that allow mailing lists?
