Member Count different to Member List

My forum went live yesterday - it is 2.0

I can see 20 members on the member list, but the stats show I have 40 new members.

When I enter admin, I believe the missing 20 members are the ones who have never visited the forum.

So,

1) Would that mean they havent activated their account yet?

2) or just not browsed a page?

3) Does 2.0 send reminders out for people to activate their account?

4) And, is there a way to get these members to show up in member list anyway?

thanks

why is it that so many requests for help go unanswered ?

i appreciate the everyone is working for free, but what is the point in having the support forum if there is no support?

I'm about as far from an expert with SMF as you can get, but I'll try and answer your questions.

1) How do you have your activation set up?  If members have to self activate, then you might still have them in the "holding pen" until they activate.  Check Awaiting Activation under members (as Admin).

2) Users have to be activated to be counted as a member.

3) Again, it depends on how you've got activation set up.  If you have user activation, they will be sent an email with a link to finish registration.  Check your settings under Registration (as Admin).

4) If you have members waiting activation, you can activate them yourself, but that kind of defeats the purpose of self activation.

Also remember that any 2.0 version is still not officially released.  Even though it is RC, things can still change.

And I agree about help here.  Sometimes you get help, other times you don't.  And there are times that what you get is a smart-ass remark rather than help.  Personally, I feel that if you don't have anything constructive to say, then don't say anything.  You're wasting my time as well as yours.  But then I figure the mentality of those kind of people are on a kindergarten level and simply try to ignore them.

I'm sorry you have had to wait.

But for your questions, the public (user viewable) memberlist does not show unactivated or banned members if memory serves. Also, if the total membercount excludes the same cases.

If you wish to gain some users to show, then perhaps changing to immediate registration would serve best - albeit that may end up with you having spammers and otherwise unactive/unwanted members more easily.

Thanks CaptainKirk

I had figured it out - and you are correct in your response.

Thank you for taking the time to compose a reasoned reply - shame the "forum staff" were lacking in trying.

Is there a way to have MEMBERS show up on the main page when a guest or anyone is viewing the forum?

Aleksi "Lex" Kilpinen

Do you mean the button for memberlist?

Yes, it's a permission "View the memberlist" - but I would advice against it even though it is possible.
