REPLACE INTO smf_settings
   (variable, value)
VALUES ('disableTemplateEval', '1');

I think it should be disabled by default or at least give an option in admin area to disable it for best performance.

What kind of realistic speed change are we looking at with SMF? I don't think we're working on the level of 100 million eval calls. Also, does the file cache in 2.0 have an effect on the speed of this operation and if so, how big of an effect?
