I did a search and found one thread on this Here but since it was pretty old and this was not really a request I would start a new one.

I am converting to SMF from another program and in that I had modded it so that all links posted in within a post that where to other topics or URLs on my domain would open in the same window. Just about every board I have looked at does this and was kind of wondering why.  Would anyone know of a security or performance issue related to this?  For me many of my users where on older computers or not very computer literate and the fact that they would end up with several windows open on there computer stacked on top of each other tended to be bit confusing to them.  Heck I run the "latest and greatest" with double 19" monitors and I even get tired of all the windows or tabs.

So I would like to hear others thoughts on this.  I'm pretty sure I am going to go ahead and look into modding it into SMF for the site I am working on unless that is someone comes up with a really good argument why I shouldn't.  :)

There's a topic on how to do this... possibly in Tips and Tricks.  It's not horribly hard to do.
