Im just going to explain what im trying to do, proably make more sence that way.

I have Mambo and SMF set up with the bridge, works great.  What i want to do is to be able to Create group permissions.
1.) registered users: can see limited articles on front page of mambo and  limted number of fourms.
2.) full members, can see all articles on front page and all forums.
3.) normal  mods / admins.

So my question is do i have to edit the permisions for a user on  both the mambo side  and the SMF side,  or is there a way to do it at the same time ? or is this even posiable ?

Kindred

Since the smf and mambo users do not currently share tables, it is not currently possible.

In theory, it would be possible to create a usergroup in Mambo that matches the SMF usergroup and have the user-port function also assign usergroup...  This would require some work in the background by someone witgh a stronger knowledge of php that I have....
