1. ok I have an issue raised on my forum by one of my member, he was not pleased that I've mark qucickreply box to send notification by default(I like to get notifications so I've done this), after him few other mebers start to say that they would like it to be uncecked as well, and few start to say that they like it to send notifications.. so I've got dillema and have to make some poll to see what people like most. So I've find out that notification system used by vB and phpBB is much more handy in this question, I mean that during registration they choose do they like notification checkbox to be enabled by default or do they like it to be disabled and they could subscribe to certain threads.

2. many people on my community registering and later just forgot to visit it once again, since registration is simple and it cost them nothing to register and forgot. But if the registration require a bit more thing to be filled like brithday and have expaned proflie like phpBB has, that would make people to think before registering if they really want to participate or just become another inactive member. so what about makind two registration screen one simple and one advanced with thing like bigoraphy, signature and birthday... ? I think this way you make people leave some remakr in their brain or discourage people who not really interesting in participation...

so what do you think about this?

sensovision

so no one wish to imporve registration proecess and refine people who are registering on the board to keep only those who really interesting in participation?

Douglas

I'm not qualified to comment on this, since I have a custom registration system in place, and I don't run a free site.

I thinks it's prefect how it is. I like how you just put your email address and password that's it.

But thats just me.  8)

it's simple and easy to use, I can't argue with this but don't you like visitors to fill all forms profile? as e.g. some newbies on my community doesn't know even that signature could be pasted automatically and post it after the message and was really surprised when someone tell them that it could be done through profile... (probably not much folks really read messages which come and tell about changing proflie... or maybe ignore it).

also as I wish to mention that I'm trying suggest different options for registration screen basic and advanced with all these fields included.

Ben_S

When faced with more than 6 or so fields I just dont bother, yes maybe it should be optional to have a fully populated one but it would annoy me if it defaulted to one  ;D

Spaceman-Spiff

i think its a good idea to redirect registration page to profile page right after done registering

sensovision

hey Spaceman-Spiff, your solution is also could work... since more people would have their profiles filled...
have another idea maybe leave first screen as it's now and make second screen of registration which could be enabled or disabled from options, and this second screen will contain all the data like signature and such...? maybe it just be easy to code...

Grudge

How about a collapsable profile section in the registration menu? It would work exactly the same as the additional options on the post menu. When a user registers there is a "Click here to fill in your personal data" and upon clicking the edit fields drop down. I don't know how much stuff you can display this way (images??) but many fields could be input this way and would look rather cool IMHO
I'm only a half geek really...

Yes, either of the last two ideas would work well IMO.

collapsable profile couldn't work on some browsers since "additional options" doesn't work on Mozilla but hopefulyl someone who know java will be able to solve this.
