Name-Changing Time Limit

Long story short...

I have allowed members of my forum to change their display names. The problem is, of course, that they tend to change their display names often, which can be confusing. I want to set a limit on how often they can change their display name - 30 days. If they changed their name less than 30 days ago and try to, they will receive an error.

How would I do this?

I would also be interested in knowing if there is an option to do this somehow.

(also sorry for bumping a three year old post, didn't realize it was that old when i searched for an answer to this)

Would you want that for all members (admin included) or configurable at membergroup level (e.g. moderators and admins exempt)?

Im just looking for all members admins and mods included, member groups level would be nice but its not necessary :)

Would it also be fixed at 30 days or would that be configurable (and configurable at member group level?)

For my personally configerable but wouldnt have to be at all member group levels.

What i personally am looking for is like a 4-6 month limit for all members on name changes.  It really doesn't matter if its configurable so long as its around that amount of time.  And like i said before I personally don't need it configurable for member group levels, one setting for all members including admin is fine :)

Btw, i dont wanna take up a bunch of anyones time :)  If there's a quick simple solution great, if not I can always disable name changing and enable it a couple times a year for a week or so.

There isn't a particularly simple way of doing this. You have to save the time of last edit, plus storing all the rules you want to have, plus adding the items in the admin panel.

It's not, overall, a small job and would probably take best part of a day to code and test, IMO.

I can move this to Mod Requests though in the hope someone does pick it up?

Oh no thats okay, no need to have someone spend a day on something that Im the only one who wants.  I appreciate the effort figuring it out though, tyvm :)
