I messed up so much with my forum, trying to fix stuff ive broken it all. Ive ended up replacing every file on there except Settings.php.
If i gave access to my FTP and Cpanel account could someone please fix it? All i want to save is my members, posts, forums, etc, that kind of stuff. As log as you can retain that database stuff, i dont mind how you get my forums working again.

Thanks

I've been drinking so I cannot take access to your board, but if you share the problems you are having, I would guess the community can help you fix them in no time.

My problem was that it was reading files from another cpanel account, without me realising. I deleted the folder on this cpanel thinking it was the old copy before i moved it onto its own cpanel. But the forum in its new lcoation was still eading from its old location so it lost half its files. I tried telling it to look at the correct forum files, but it caused error. Ive tried reuploading all the files except settings.php but that dident fix it. I really have NO idea at all on how im supposed to fix it. Like i said, as long as the posts, forums, users, all that important stuff remains i dont mind if everything else gets scrapped, which most of it probably has with the re-upload of files.

If your database is still intact you can make a fresh install of the forum using the 'old' database.

Do i do the installation as normal?

xenovanis

Yes, upload all installation-files, run install.php and use the data of your current database. It should work fine, I've done this a couple of times after I screwed up. Ben_S is right, drinking and hacking your forum won't work.  :D

Are you sure the database is still intact and you used the correct name and prefix? Install really should recognize the database if there is SMF data in it.

Hey, where did that post go?

Upload everything and run repair_settings

What is repair_settings.php?

That's the other option  :-[ I always tend to forget about it..

Well, I did some really stupid things after some glasses of wine, so I decided that I won't do it anymore if either I have to drive or I have to make some changes in my forumfiles.  :D Guess it just has a bad influence on me.
