I'd like to add my request for a chat room as a feature.

Of course there are mods for this, but new versions may not be compatible.
I would like it built in because I would like it to be a service I an offer to my paying subscribers. With it a mod I can offer it as an additional bouns with the warning that it may go away and thus it is not a guarantee of the subscription features.
It would a greater icenctive to have the stability of a built-in feature.

A Chat room, while it has a purpose on some sites is not part of the majority of forums...  It is unlikely that this will ever be a standard feature...

There are several mods or bridges to chat room software already...

I'm with Kindered about this, it's something totally oposite from forum's point, and we have few chat mods, so i don't think that we need something like this as standard feature.
