Hi,

I am a newbie and just starting to set up a forum using SMF. However everytime I click the Install link in the mod section, error like this will occur:

Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /index.php on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Apache/2.2.15 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.15 OpenSSL/0.9.8m DAV/2 mod_fcgid/2.3.5 mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 mod_bwlimited/1.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 Server at hxxp:youthfully.net [nonactive] Port 80

I already change the permission to certain folders and files just like in the installation page, using Filezilla FTP software. Please let me know how to solve this problem. Thanks in advance for your help and sorry for my bad English :-)

Kill Em All

Have you tried 777 and 755 for those files?

Is what is your index.php CHMOD to?

The index.php is already chmod to 755

Another problem is everytime I try to install mod by downloading them in the Package Manager, it will prompt me to download the zip file whenever I click the install link.

Kill Em All

I read this wrong. Sorry.

Ok, SMF is already installed, ALL folders should be CHMOD to 755 while ALL files be CHMOD to 644.

Which files?

Already chmod the index.php to 644. But still getting the forbidden error.

Kill Em All

All files. But if everything is CHMOD correctly, it might be a possible mod_security issue. You might want to ask your host about that.

While the forbidden error has been settled, there is another issue that I find critical. Within the Package Manager section, everytime I click Install it will download the MOD zip file. Then I can see it listed in Modification Packages. However when I click the Install link, it will prompt to download the file as .zip into my computer.

I found the problem is from the Download Accelerator Plus software. After the software has been disable, the function woks normal. Thanks for all your help and concern. Guess its time to close this thread.
