It seems that the browser that you copy your html from may be a factor here.

Loading the same html document into both Firefox & Chrome, the text copied from Firefox displays well after being pasted into the SMF WYSIWYG editor. But the same text copied from Chrome... does not. Lots of redundant, unused end tags.

Oddly, I pasted both into a separate html editor... and they are virtually the same as far as I can tell.

Well, the difference is clear.  The SMF WYSIWYTYGTG editor is made by a small group of PHP developers who use mainly FireFox as their browser.  I've seen many cases where they don't test in other browsers even after being told there are browser-specific bugs in SMF.

Well, to be fair, Chrome currently only owns about 6% of the browser user market. That's just a single percent above Opera.  I can see how it might get overlooked.

But it is growing in popularity & usage very quickly. I like it because its fast & light... and not bloated with features I don't need and never use. Its not perfect... but its growing up.

But as you suggested, I'm not sure how well the WYSIWYG editor was tested with it.  Or... again trying to be fair... if what I'm trying to do with it was ever tested.  I'm not sure if the average Joe User is normally copying html from an outside source and trying to paste it into the editor. I actually could be one of those better idiots that comes along and ruins the idiot proof code.  ;D

Oh, I wasn't speaking about just Chrome. ;)  If they were programming for the masses, they'd make sure these things worked in both Firefox and IE, for example, to cover the largest demographics.

The whole point of WYSIWYG editors is to give you as close an approximation of the original code as possible.
