Hello - thanks in advance for your help!

I work on the websites for a small engineering instrumentation distributor - we sell flow meters, temperature controllers, and other instrumentation that is used in process control applications.

How can I use forums for SEO and/or building inbound links?

What kind of forums should I be posting in? And am I supposed to include my website in my signature when I post?

Thanks for your help.

First of all, be prepared for flames here. People hate forum spam, and you're strongly hinting of that.

Anyway, if done correctly, you can build a good reputation and help get your website out there.

You should post in relevant forums. If there are industry discussion forums that apply to you, become a member and make good contributions to the forum. Post links to your site where they are relevant. If you just simply post silly little messages, you'll get banned quickly and all your posts and links will be removed. People will also remember you and most will make a conscious effort to avoid your company. You certainly don't want bad publicity, that'll hurt more than none at all.

As for your signature, it will depend on the policy of the forum at which you are being a contributor (notice I said contributor). Many will have policies on number of links, size, or other elements.

The most important thing is to avoid posting your link where it is not appropriate. It'll give you a bad reputation and will hurt you in the long run.
