Hi,
since I reinstalled the SMF 1.03 board on a different hosting server
it seems, that I each day and also after a few hours I have to relogin
with my username and password.

In the old installation, I did not have to relogin the next day,
when I came back and the Cookie was still stored in my harddisk.

COuld it be, that it depends on the permission of  a few directories ?
ALso the attachment directory was set wrong, when I uploaded the
SMF files again.

So why do I need every time to login again now. although I have clicked
"forever" ?

Many thanks.

Regards, Stefan.

My experience (with Opera) is that this can be browser related, you must make sure that you are using EXACTLY the same form of URL where ever it is stored.

For example if your bookmark is set to http://www.your-domain and your cookie is http://your-domain you will have to keep logging in, well you get the general idea...

Hmm,
but it also happens, when I delete the cookies and
come back to the exact same page.

What permission do I have to set all the directories of SMF 1.03 ?
ALL to 777 ?

Regards, Stefan.

Hi,
try
www.overunity.com
and
hallo
hallo
as username and password.
Thanks.

I got a cookie that will last until:

You might try enabling subdomain-independent cookies and changing the cookie name.

Thanks for the answer, but where and how do I do this ?

Thanks.

Regards, Stefan.

Edit Features and Options -> search for "subdom"

Server Settings -> search for "cooki"

Okay, I found that and changed that.

Server Settings -> search for "cooki"

This I found under:
Edit Server Settings
but it is greyed out.
It reads:
SMFCookie11

Should I change this directly under
Settings.php ?

What should I set this to ?

Thanks.

Hmm,
I have seen now, that there is still a difference:

When I call up my board with:
http://overunity.com/index.php

it will not recognize me and I am only a "guest" and have to relogin.

When I call up with the leading www.
as in:

http://www.overunity.com/index.php

then it recognizes me and I don´t have to relogin.

So is there still something wrong with the cookies ?

That would be what the subdomain independent cookie option is for.

How do I use chmod?

What permission should I change via CHMOD ?

I already changed the subdomain feature,
now what should I do with the cooki ?
in Settings.php or in another file  ?

I would change it to "SMFCookie2" or something.  Something different, in any case, and then log in again.  This will make everyone log in again, and will hopefully clear up your cookie problems.

I'm having the same problems with people logging in. People on the site are crying. Here's one user:
==
I finally was allowed to log out and log back in.  Since then I've logged in no less than 10 times in the last 5 minutes.  Every time I go to send a PM I have to log in.  I came to this spot to leave this message and again I had to log in.  On each case when I had to log in I had written this message and it wasn't till I was done that it erased my message and told me to log in.

Any other settings to try out?
