Strictly MySQL Integration?

Greetings,

I run a system with a Java application for the front end, perl for the server (yes perl), and MySQL for the back end. I have about 30 customers with about a thousand users. I don't know much about PHP but I'm pretty handy with perl, so I was wondering how difficult it would be to create a private forum for each customer and a login for each user just by updating the database. In other words I want to completely bypass (and preferably disable) the normal registration mechanism and manipulate the database directly to add new forums, disable forums, add and disable logins, and limit logins to forums. Before I download SMF and start digging into it, I was wondering if anybody could give me a general idea on how hard that would be.

Thanks,
James

Sorry for getting to this late. I know I have this wrong, but it sounds like you want to have a bunch of SMF forums inside a SMF forum. or... is it that you want to have a preset database setup for your customers with certain settings and then they use that database when they create their forum?

Kindred

when you say "forums" do you mean actual FORUMS or do you mean BOARDS.

i.e. This is the Portals, Bridges, and Integrations BOARD in the Customizing SMF CATEGORY in the Simple Machines.org FORUM
