How Can I Add A Paragraph Of Text?

I would like to add a paragraph of text between (on the default theme) the Home Help Search Login Register bar and my first board.  I assume I will have to edit the index.template somehow.  Anyone know how this would be done?

You could use the News fader....

That's one way (and likely the easiest). Did you want this paragraph to be on every page of your site? Global Headers/Footers mod is another option or editing index.template.php is another. If that's the route you want to take, look for this bit:
