Board Lock?

have a group lock, where you enter your age and when you are or are 18 it puts you in a the 18+ group and then you get to view a section locked for the 18 year olds and more

Presumably you would have to give instructions/rules for admittance - wouldn't members then just bypass by lying if underage?

You could use apply for group if using 2.x or create a form within 1.x for application to a bespoke 18+ membergroup.

There's many ways of doing this but you will ultimately rely on members' honesty

Is it possible to lock a board where only the global mod or administrator can let an individual member join if the admn thinks that member would sincerely contribute ?   I saw this feature once on another forum and it would come in handy on mine.......

If you are using 2.0, you can create joinable groups. With these, you can even put a member in charge of approving join requests. Using that type of group as having access to that board should satisfy your requirements as you stated them.

There is a Group Moderators modification for 1.1. I haven't used it but it might do the job.

hmmm.... there used to be a mod for age-based groups. I can't find it any more though....   

It wouldn't be terribly hard to code, but would, of course, depend on the users' honesty in entering their birthdate.

And Chappy...   did you read the sticky at the top of this board?  *NO* further development is being done on the 1.1.x line (nor on the 2.0 release)

I've read it now and understand but I still would have posted my question because I didn't know if it was already a capability of 1.1.11.  Is there someone I can pm with who can answer some ignorant questions from someone new  ?  I'm just a global mod on a forum who has been abandoned for seven months with no ability to contact the forum owner.  I have never owned a forum and am definitely not a tech person.  I don't even understand half of what I'm reading.  This is way beyond my comprehension.  I'm only trying to preserve the forum in the owner's absence.  I came to this site as a last resort....

If you're looking for things that can be added, it's probably best to ask in the general support boards by posting a topic there. It is also suggested that you do a few quick searches as you might find your answer quickly that way.
