I just installed Simple Portal on SMF 2.0 RC3 but i can't find the control panel anywhere. How am i suppose to get to it.?

Hj Ahmad Rasyid Hj Ismail

It is not under Configuration Menu, if you are searching for it there. It is on its on menu just next to Forum Menu.

ulrichzuko

i know what you mean, but that
s the thing, the menu is not there at all, i've been looking for hours, for help all over the internet.

first of all, ask in the support topic or at simple-portal.net

Near the top of your SMF Forum page is the menu:
Home - Forum - Help - Search - Admin - Moderate - Profile - My Messages - Calendar - Members - Logout

Place your cursor on ADMIN and you will see five selections starting with
Features and Options and ending with SimplePortal

Click SimplePortal

You will see...
Your Forum » Administration Center » Configuration » Information

Main - Configuration - Forum - SimplePortal - Members - Maintenance - Configuration

This area allows you to view SimplePortal information and manage SimplePortal settings.
Information - General Settings - Block Settings - Article Settings

Live from SimplePortal... etc...etc...etc...

I had a hard time finding it too. I think its the combination of the newness of SMF 3.0 RC3 and the unfamiliarity of SimplePortal.

Suggestion... Make your own New Topic at SimplePortal for best results. :)

Good Luck.

I don't think it is a major issue with SP, so I think it's fine to ask such a small question here.

Try looking at the download page on the Simple Machines Customization site (custom.simplemachines.org) for Simple Portal. It should show you where to go.

When you installed SP, did it give you an error?

Hj Ahmad Rasyid Hj Ismail

I guess I know the problem. Is this a default theme or custom theme? If it is on the custom theme, please change to default theme and check whether it is there. Then, uninstall the SP mod and reinstall it back. This time, during the installation i.e. before you click continue, click to expand to install it on each and every custom theme you have. It might work this time.

Um, ahrasis, if you check the code  you'll find that it does not edit the Admin template to insert the menu.

Still, checking to see it's on default is not a bad idea.

It is just a guess... As normally in order for a mod to appear in admin cp, they normally modify its files. It may not necessarily modify the template for adding menu e.g. modifying /Sources/Subs.php can also add menu without a need to modify any template files. Anyway, it is just my guess. I really don't know it for sure.

That's the gllory of well written portals... no template edits are made

I won't be too happy too soon. I also notice several weaknesses in SP but it can always be improved in future version (I hope) or can modified using another mod.

I've tried everything, i just won't work. Please there has to be a solution out there. No matter how many times i uninstall and reinstall it just doesn't work. The Admin CP for SP never is there i even tried installing Dream Portal, and still nothing.

My best advice to you then is to rustle up some patience and go to SimplePortal.net and ask for help. They know their software better than anyone, and will be happy to help.

Start a new thread giving them your full information as to what version SMF you have, what mods, changes and themes you have installed, if you have the default theme active when installing, etc. in your initial post. Help them to help you.

Free software programs are created and supported by volunteers, and they get to problems as best they can. It often takes a day or so to get a workable reply.

Wishing you well with this.

Thanks for that, i may do that, but i think i may be close to my solution from another topic in this very board, i will report back.

It didn't work, i think ima just give up now. I tried every method on the simpleportal forums and here and around.

as a side note: small question or not, all questions about specific mods should be asked in the support thread for that mod (or on the support site for that mod).

A lack of response in the support thread is not really a reason to post in the smf (core) support section.

However... the lack of an admin may be due to your language. Most mods only install in english (and do not: english utf-8 is a different language from english, as far as the forum is concerned). If you are using any language other than english, the problem is likely to be that the mod text strings are not loaded for your language

Please do not PM, IM or Email me with support questions.  You will get better and faster responses in the support boards.  Thank you.
