After reading another thread on here about a possible illegal copy of SMF, I got on Limewire and searched to see if it was being handed out illegally.  Well, I did find a copy of 1.0.5 on there.  I did a "Browse Host" search on the person with the file, and I believe the number it shows in the person IP.  I could be wrong though, as I am not familiar with how Limewire does that.  Anyway, here is the screen:

Just thought you guys would like to know.

:o No one should even want to download SMF 1.0.5 from anywhere else besides here! Why download it off of Limewire when you know for sure that the one on this site has no viruses and etc.

Still breaks the license, I am not arguing that, also it seems fishy.

I'm just as puzzled as you are. :)

I don't know how limewrie does it, but it might be that it exists in this persons download folder or something - and that he just shared the whole folder without thinking.

Or it may be quite conscious of course. In either way its strange..since it isn't even a charter version, which might be more "understandable" in terms of being shared...

Heh - if people redistribute it on p2p software there isn't really much we can do about it without being asses like the RIAA and trying to sue the ass off people. It would be a completely different kettle of fish if it was done through a website - but as it's peer to peer it seems relatively OK to me. Note that this is only my opinion in relation to 1.0.5 - if it were a private beta then I would *not* be happy with it being redistributed.

Please note that this is just my personal opinion - not necessarily that of Simple Machines :)
I'm only a half geek really...

And a "SMF-cold"..both at 15-20 mb..? Hm. Maybe the 15mb is what it takes to kill SMF, and the 20mb is after its "dead"... :P

Probably a setup of php/mysql or something in a zip rather.
