Expand/Collapse headers in table?

I have a menu table, similar to the menu table you see on the left side of the Admin panel in SMF. I'm trying to get it so I can make the table headers (where it says CAT1, CAT2, CAT3) expandable/collapsible. It would pretty much do the same as the collapsible forum categories, although I tried stealing some code from SMF's BoardIndex.template.php file to do this but I didn't seem to have any luck. Maybe I can use the same JS library SMF uses instead of using a 3rd party script?
