Het Bosje

Hi I'm using 1.1.11 with mysql 5.0.45 database.
There are many defragmented tables, when defragmented after 30 minutes the same tables are fragmented again.
Is this a longterm problem, or am I chasing ghosts?
My provider tells me that the cause is bad coding of the smf software?? ???

Het Bosje

Nobody any clue?
I can hardly imagine that!

kat

Well... I optimise mine every month and there's barely ANY defragmentation, EVER.

That suggests, to me, that you have a dubious host.

SMF has an auto-optimise feature, though. Could you use that?

Admin>Server settings>Feature Configuration>Optimize tables every how many days?

What could be dubious K@?
I have a CentOS 5.2 with mysql 5.0.45 database the server is a Virtual server running under Virtuozo.
And I have full shell acces.
In the past with my 3.2.23 Mysql had no problems at all.

That function is active, but after 1 update with smf, mysqltuner.pl is reporting 5 or more fragmented tables.
It's a real pain......

kat

Ah! You're self-hosted!

Oh, heck. I have no ideas, then, I'm afraid.

I run four fora, using SMF v1.1.12 and v2RC3 and they're on three different hosts.

I NEVER, ever have that kind of problem.

Maybe someone with a few braincells (Mr. Phil?) will see this and have more of a clue.

Het Bosje

Still no one any clue?
It's a bad way to leave 2010 and go to 2011 with this error.

Het Bosje

I won't sound negative, but is there still nobody who has any clue?
What a support board.........

What a support board.........

With comments, like that, you're hardly going to have people falling over themselves to help you, now are you?

I know K@ but is there nobody experiencing the same problem?
I can hardly believe that!!!
Your tips and support is highly appreciated, but I'd hoped for a little more.

kat

To be honest, I've never, ever seen anything like it, here.

The fact that you're self-hosted might mean that a lot of them members won't have a clue as to what to advise, other than what I already have.

Obviously, they're not going to reply with "I have no idea, sorry.".

I'll flag this up on the behind-the-scenes "WTF?" board and see if anyone has any ideas.

Bigguy

Would the status.php file help him or anyone else resolve this issue. ???

flapjack

I host forums mostly on VPSs, and never came upon a similar issue, I must say.

What's your SQL config?

IchBin™

Never seen it here myself either. I've been self hosting my own sites for a few years and have never had a problem with database fragmentation. Especially as often as you are having it.

I like Bigguy's suggestion.   If you didn't have issues with 3.2.23 there may be something with you upgraded implementation.

1 - I didn't upgrade, I took a mysqldump and imported this in a newly installed mySQL 5 database.
2 - please tell me what a good can new status.php do for me?
3 - flapjack asked about my mySQL config.
here is my mySQL.cnf

[mysqld]
max_connections=60
key_buffer=40M
datadir=/var/lib/mysql
socket=/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock
user=mysql
# Default to using old password format for compatibility with mysql 3.x
# clients (those using the mysqlclient10 compatibility package).
#
# defaults
# query_cache_limit=512K
# query_cache_size=40M
#
#
#
old_passwords=1
table_cache=2000
tmp_table_size=33M
max_heap_table_size=18M

skip-innodb
skip-bdb
skip-networking

max_allowed_packet=4M
thread_stack=128K
thread_cache_size=8
query_cache_limit=14M
query_cache_size=15M
pid-file=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.pid
log-error=/var/log/mysqld.log
log-slow-queries=/var/log/mysql_slow.log
bind-address=127.0.0.1

[mysql.server]

Is that what you want to see?

JimM

No one said you upgraded.  You stated:

QuoteIn the past with my 3.2.23 Mysql had no problems at all.

Now you are using 5.0.45.  < -- appears to be an upgrade.

Sometimes our suggestions are to try and find differences or things that have changed.  This is especially true when you state it worked fine before.   If you don't want to provide what we ask for, that's your choice.

It's not a matter of won't, but i think its a matter of understanding.
Keep in mind that English is not my native tongue.
Please tell me whatr you expect from me, please?

This would be a good start.  Seeing as we haven't run up against this before, I'm not sure how much help we will be.  Also keep in mind that we have language specific support boards is English is not your native language.

Point taken, I'm out of here.
