Hey everyone.

I'm slowly planning on the upgrade from 1.1.11 to the newest version of 2.0, and have quite a few questions.

1. I've been looking around, but haven't yet found a tutorial on upgrading the databases from the 1.1.x setup to 2.0. What I am currently doing is setting up a fresh install of 2.0 on another site where I am going to build up the needed packages and features, and then plan on dumping the database into it from the existing forum. What changes must I do to the database, if any, in order for it to work out?

2. The other issue is with the database itself, which is rather large. I cannot download or upload it through phpMyAdmin given its size. Since the forum has over 17,000 members and roughly 50,000 posts, this database is huge. Can someone post up alternatives to phpMyAdmin? If there is anyway for me to upload the database to a folder where I can run a command to populate the database would work out great.

Many thanks in advance! :)

I'm not sure I understand Q2...

With Q1, though, the upgrade script upgrades the database.

You don't have to do anything, except take a FULL backup, first. ;)

Alright, I'm going to try to use the Upgrade script when I get to the point. Question 2 was asking if there was incite to using anything but phpMyAdmin to move my database. The size of the database is larger than allowed through phpMyAdmin. I think I'll just have to wing it, and see what can be done! Thanks info, I'll definitely give it a try!

The issue with doing it the way you described is that at some point you will be importing the 1.1.x database into the database that you are currently using.  If you have installed mods for 2.0 that added anything to the database, you may have some issues after importing the 1.1.x data.  I've not attempted an upgrade this way so it may work out fine.

Here is a topic you might find interesting about backing up your database:
