it would not be a bad idea to do a backup before doing this change, just in case things dont work out the way you want.

Norv

Please backup all your database before. Using CPanel or PHPMyAdmin for it, if your host offers them, is better than SMF's own backup function.
If the conversion has any problem at all, restore the backup, and please let us know.

It may be a good idea to also upgrade your forum, and if you intend to, then doing it before the conversion may be best.

Norv,

this step,
Go to 'Forum Maintenance' -> 'Convert the database and data to UTF-8'
does not work.
Ithink that alla data should convert from the tables  and then import in a new base.
But i am not quite sure for all this.

Norv

All tables and their data should be converted to UTF8, by the "Convert the database and data" step (not imported in a new base).

Can you please tell what exactly it did? Did it start doing something, did it show any error?

Also, please login in phpMyAdmin, select your database, and the 'export' tab. Export all tables to a file, but please make sure to check "structure only" and NOT "data".
Then, attach that file here please.
