Excessive spam posts

I'm using smf 1.1.12. My forums only been up for 2 weeks, and I'm getting a lot of trash spam postings - around 3 to 5 a day. I ban the member, and delete the posting, but they seem to keep coming in. Is there anything to be done about this? I recently added the visual id check at registration which I had disabled. I'm wondering now if I should have a visual id check for each posting, like here on this forum, but I don't see how to activate it on my theme, which is Esintiler.

Also to note that the ban process is time-consuming. It would be nice if there was simple box to select next to the members listing, rather than have to go to the ban page and enter data for name, email, and ip address.

I can suggest you to install http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=999 this mod,this could prevent the registration of spammers and for captcha you can try this one http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=907

you can also look at the mods here http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?action=search;type=19 and install any that you think may help.

These look like good suggestions, unfortunately, I don't know where to begin to install any of them. I see a lot of html in the files, where to put it? The 'manual' on the page is no help either to anyone with my limited webmaster  abilities. Can you give me a clue about how to install?
