Edit Message Icons --> Add New Icon

I have made about 8 new gifs that I would like to add as message icons. I have uploaded them to /themes/default/images/post however when I try to add them via Edit Message Icons --> Add New Icons I get this error "An Error Has Occurred!
The icon image could not be found in the default theme - please ensure the image has been uploaded and try again."

Stranger still if I try to modify one of the existing icons, simply swapping the specified gif for one I have uploaded I have a similar problem, but not if I use the wireless.gif icon that comes standard. However, I can't add an extra icon using this gif either, I get the same error.

Any suggestions as to what I'm missing?

Edit: I know this must be possible, because this forum has different message icons. The 'Solved' icon for instance.

Edit 2: There is no problem adding an extra message icon, if I specify one of the gif files used by one of the existing message icons.

It's SMF 2.0 RC2 by the way.

you should upgrade to RC5 so you can get all the security fixes since RC2 was released.

I solved the problem. I had the wrong root directory before themes/default/images/post

I'm only an assistant when it comes to website administration. The primary admin makes the call on when to upgrade.
