We have done the upgrade of SMF_1-1-rc2 on a copy of the production DB of our website.
After the upgrade we got the following message : site is using an ILLEGAL copy of SMF!.
After this we haven done a complete new install and have made a new db through the install
After this the error was gone.
Then we have adapted the settings.php so that it pointed backat the production database as a test and again we got the message : site is using an ILLEGAL copy of SMF!

The language setting is set on english and we use the fms default template win 2003 php 5 mysql 4.1. Is there anyone who has a solution for this problem?

You have either not uploaded Subs.php, or your language file is out of date.
I'm only a half geek really...

Dear Grudge

We have first rolled out the upgrade and then  we have run the upgrade.php.
The database upgrade was successful , after this we got the template error.
Then we've emptied the smf dir on the setting.php and left the setting_bak.php.
Then we've rolled out the full install but unfortunately we also get the same error here.
We have looked at the file date and all upgrade files have the date of 31-12-05.

We think there is a problem in the upgrade for the _settings table.
But actually we are in the dark concerning this bug.

Redownload the file, then upload. Maybe the download was currupted? This has happened to a nubmer of people, including myself. After they redownloaded it, it worked fine. Have you tried that yet?

funk001

No, unfortunately  it still doesn't work. We have taken the following steps:

01 * We have made a copy of the production db
02 * We have transferred a copy of the production site to the test site
03 * We have adapted the settisite so it points at the default smf template and lang
05 * We have downloaded an new set install files
06 * We rolled out the upgrade set over the existing test site
07 * After this we ran the upgrade and according to the logs everything went oke.
08 * Then we called on the site but we still get the same error
09 * Then we deleted the entire site an rolled out the full install set
10 * We put back and adapted the setting.php and the setting_bak.php. This didn't do work
      either.
11 * We did an iis reset to be sure that there was nothing left in the chass but this did not give
      Us the wanted results

We have also done a full new install and here it works fine. Can it be that there is something going wrong with the mkportal that we are also running?

At this moment we are out of ideas and options. We are hoping that you have any more suggestions of were to look.

Yours sincerely

EG

are you sure you have uploaded the default theme correctly?

without that in place correctly that error shows

funk001

After your message we have removed the default theme and replaced it with the default theme
from the full install set smf 1.1 rc2.
Still we get the same error.
We have also installed the english language files for smf 1.1 rc2.
With both the existing as the new language files we still get the error

We checked the index.template.php in the default theme and on line 367 we found theme_copyright()

Make sure your default theme's directories are correct. There are no language strings, images, style sheets, etc. whatsoever meaning that they cannot be opened. Upload and run this tool from your web browser. It will help you fix the paths.

Kirby

I just refreshed and it seems that that's not the case. Make sure that your language files are uploaded into /Themes/default/languages/. The copyright string is stored in index.english.php, but upload all of them.
