Is there an easy way to check how safe my SMF-based website is? I'm by no means an expert on this and I'm expecting a lot of new traffic soon, so I want to be sure it's not easy to hack into the website.

most of the ways to hack would be related to server side lack of security or you not keeping your smf install up to date.

If you have limited control over the server side of your installation then something like CrawlProtect will give you an extra layer of protection..

Read the documentation but suggest you edit the configconnect.php (located in "includes" folder) and add your database details before uploading the files. Also, chmod the uploaded directories to 777 whilst you install as the install process creates a few extra ones (and then change em back to 755 once all setup).

If you have any probs with it then post on the CrawlProtect support forum in the Troubleshooting section. You can also pm me if it's a quick question.
