Upgrade from 1.1.11 problem

Because of constant spamming, I have been trying to upgrade from 1.1.11 to the latest SMS version, but the upgrade keeps on 'falling over'.

Having, finally, given up,  I would now like to download the newest version of SMS and then use the facility to get the old files from my 1.1.11 uploaded into it.

I know that SMS will allow the taking over of files from other forums, ... but will it allow the transfer in from an older SMS version?

I am very reticent to just 'try it out' and I don't want to disrupt the forum users.

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated, ... especially if you can point me to a tutorial on how to do this.

Regards, and thanks in anticipation of your assistance.

P.S.
Even if the new version doesn't clear up the spamming problem, I still need to move on from this old version.

First off, let's see if we can figure-out why things keep "Falling over", shall we?

Can you elaborate on that, please?

MisterChips

Thank you.

I get this error

"The package you are trying to download or install is either corrupt or not compatible with this version of SMF".

when trying to move from my current version 1.1.11 to 1.1.12

Oh, has that damned thing still not been fixed?

Try uploading the file http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/downloads/smf_1-1-2_patch.tar.gz, using FTP, into your "Packages" directory.

Then, go to Packages to apply it.

See how that goes. :)

If it still fails, try dearchiving the tar/gz and rearchiving it as a zip.
