Smiley combinations

I've seen users posting smilies like :-)

These don't work in SMF:
:-) :-( :-P

I think that should be included.

Also,
The smiley is quite confusing at times - I'd request it to also work like :-/, aka with the slash the other way.

(fyi I could make a mod for this, but I think this should be a core feature)

Isn't the selection of a smiley not simply based on an editable "code", like I could change :P to do what :( currently does, or add :-P to select what :P does?

but using the "nose" is not standard usage (extra character and all)

and :\ is the standard "meh" smiley that I know of... :/

AFAIK, :-) is the original, standard smiley face. :) is an acceptable shortcut.

Use whatever facility is necessary to add the "alternate" smiley codes to the parser (generating the same image), and both will then be accepted.

I date back to BBS and dial-up text-chat...   we never used the nose.

The problem with SMF is that you can't define multiple codes for a single image particularly easily.

I have some ideas for this for 3.0 but there's no way it can be done properly without a total rewrite of the smiley system (and at that point I'll likely be dropping smiley sets while I'm at it) but for now I think this is going to have to go into the 'not now' board.
