Unread topics issue

I've noticed that on my forum, that when I click 'Show unread posts since last visit.', many times it will show no new posts and I will later realize that there indeed is. A few others have been having the same issues on my forum. Any idea what could be wrong?

in other words, there may be unread posts, but none since last visit....

I know that, I've had this feature for awhile now lol. I mean ill be off the forum for awhile and come back later and it will sometimes show no new replies/posts. But there will be some...i know its not just me since other staff have complained about it.
