Hi,

Like Facebook have: View as/Navigate as was introduced because a lot of people test their profile as guest/friend.

So the SMF should introduce the option for admin: View as/Navigate as guest/membergroup. I bet that almost all admins of good forums have an auxiliar username with which sometime test new features added/restricted for some member groups.

I hope it's understandable the idea  ;)

Hey mariusfv,

I wouldn't think of this being a core feature anytime soon, therefore I moved this topic to Mod Requests.

A mod which can be used in this way is SubAccounts:
http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=2264

It should work in 2.0.4.

Good luck :)

Or even the Switch Permissions mod which is exactly designed for this purpose.

@Yoshi - The mod suggested by you seems to be a good modification, but the mod didn't parse to 2.0.4. Thanks anyway.

@Arantor - The mod suggested by you parse to 2.0.4 and I will use it as soon as possible.

Sorry for my request but I've searched before for something like: "view as / navigate as" I didn't think to "Subaccounts" or " Switch Permissions".

SMF Search:  If moderators from SMF will be able to tag the modifications in idea to be improved search, for example in my example if Yosi and Arantor will be able to tag this 2 mods as "Navigate As"....etc.... in the near future other guest/members will have a chance in plus to find what already exist.

Thanks.

Arantor

There is simply no facility, nor likely to be, such a facility on the mod site for the simple reason that far too few mods can meaningfully make use of it.

Arantor are you british ? You made me laugh so good, your humor is ironic but brilliant :) ...I've understand the idea :)))

Arantor

Yes, I'm British but that wasn't a joke.

The reality is that the mod site code doesn't have this functionality at all, and even if it did - which in itself is unlikely - it would likely be misused. As it is, mod authors seem to have a hard time figuring out what category to put their mods in, too many end up in 'New Feature' even when there is a proper category for them. Getting them to properly categorise things with tags in a fashion as you describe would require even more work that they wouldn't do.

* Yoshi doesn't get the joke, but Dutchies have no humour ;)

If you want to, I can propose the idea of tags to the team for further review; if they say no (which will probably happen) , we've tried, innit? :)
