Hi all,

Very first post.  Not sure if it is in right thread or not.  Complete novice on admin of forums so sorry if this seems like a silly question.  Just in process of setting up forum and have decided to move to new host.  Had been hosting forum as sub domain but want to move it.  How do I do this?  Have been told that I need to download forum files and upload via ftp as with normal website files, but cannot figure out where to find forum files.  Obviously I know what they are, I have been attempting to edit for the last few days, but what I mean is, is there one source for the files or do I have to upload every folder e.g theme, images etc separately?  Does any of this make any sense :-[  Many thanks

With FTP, you just download all the contents of the folder your SMF install is in.
It will keep all the stuff like separate directories (yes those are very important :P) in place. When you upload it to your new host, it will create those directories back in there.

Maybe your new host can help you moving?

If you're moving an existing forum that already has attachments and avatars in it, be careful if using FileZilla to do the file transfer. It will corrupt your attachments and avatars if you don't know how to force it to transfer files without extensions in binary mode. Make sure whoever handles this for you is aware of this.

Please do not PM, IM or Email me with support questions.  You will get better and faster responses in the support boards.  Thank you.

Whatever else you do, you'll need the database. THAT is THE important thing, coz the rest can be rebuilt, if the worst comes to the worst.

The link Kindred posted covers that. :)

Actually, although my point is kinda relevant, my main reason for posting was to say...

coz I'm such a friendly, sweet, innocent and, above all, chaste young man.

Or something. ;)

cough, cough, Cough, Cough, COUGH, HAAAAAAACK! You old fart, what's with "young"? Trying to pick up ladies young enough to be your granddaughter? (Yes, I know, it can be a blast!)

I had a girlfriend once who was, shall we say, fairly "adventurous". Her motto was "I'm sweet, but hardly innocent."  ::)

Age is a relative thing.

Oh, wait... most of my relatives are younger then me. :(
