is there any way to temporarily change member passwords using the database?

i've tried changing the password field to match another passwords hash (ie/c805843b25385756bc3819e65dbe0639b1b56df2)

but the login gets rejected.  i imagine there's some other fields that need to be updated as well.

anyone have any insite in this?

why cant you just change the password in the users profile? maybe explaining what you are trying to do will get you a better answer.

Basically you shouldn't do so, simple as that. There are other things that need to be adjusted and I also get the impression you built the hash incorrectly as well.

i figured out the other issue with the notification of topics.  now when a new topic is created, that user automatically has the notifications setup (by default).

unfortunately this doesnt occur for topics that were previously made prior to making this change.

i couldnt figure out how to assign these notifications for the previous topics that were created already.  i figured i would manually do this for the users that created those topics by temporarily changing the pw, logging in, clicking notify and changing the pw back.

if i change this via the admin panel, i wont be able to change back because i dont know their pw's

i know this is an odd thing to do, however, it's a new forum and i believe the reminders will help revive some activity.  (it already has)

do you really expect us to help you hack into your users accounts? no we are not here to help you do that and violate your users privacy.

the intentions weren't negative.

i couldnt think of another way to do it.

perhaps there's another way to turn on these notifications of existing posts?

Aside from the debatable breach of privacy of so doing, there is almost certainly a better way of doing it, however there are other questions. For example the extra load of sending lots more emails (might be beyond what some hosts allow), not to mention the issue related to anti-spamming laws...

The proper way is for members to opt in themselves, but manually modifying the notifications tables would be better...

correct..if i was interested in violating their privacy, i would just do it via the database...that's surely not my intentions at all.

what notifications tables would i be looking at?

estes

looks like smf_log_notify might be what i want.

thanks for the helpful replies
