I screwed up - smf database question

Hello there.  I am totally a novice to computers in general, a few months ago I had no idea what 'ftp' was or what the word 'domain' meant.  I sat down and forced myself to learn, for various reasons that include opening a forum.  Part of the learning process, at least for me, is making mistakes.  We learn from our mistakes, right?  Well, I think I screwed something up in the process of learning.

While trying out different forum software, I accidentally overwrote my SMF password in my password manager.  Of course the new software didn't work out and I went back to 2.0.9 SMF.  I should have had faith that SMF is the best and just stuck with it, but, you know, curiosity....

I never got a 'password reset' email, so I took matters into my own hands, opened DirectAdmin and phpmyadmin, and went into the smf_members database to reset the password manually.  I deleted the password and salt, and it fixed my password problem....but I inadvertently deleted the 'verification code' as well.

Is there any way to 'replace' the 'verification code'  in the smf_members database, or am I just S.O.L.?

Thanks for your time and attention to this matter.

If you remove the password and salt and use a plaintext password, log in with that, it should work just fine. I don't exactly understand what problem you're having at this point.

The verification code is randomly generated for the purposes of forgot password emails, nothing comes to mind that would be broken without it...
Holder of controversial views, all of which my own.

I was just wondering if the missing 'verification code' will cause problems down the line.  I appreciate the help, guys, most of the other stupid questions I had, I ended up figuring it out eventually, but I just haven't found much info on what the 'verification code' does or what it is for.
