Ok I did that,  it worked.   Thank you so much.   It would be nice if mods, would tell you how to actually, TOTALLY remove them.

Your awesome.

There is a reason why most don't remove the db entries, I don't recall why at this time, but another may jump in and refresh my memory.
I'm glad I could be of assistance buddy. :)
Do NOT give admin and/or ftp details to just anybody, see if they are trust worthy first!!  Do your homework ;)

Can someone explain what the mod does please.

Bit late but it gives you the ability to add a noreply@ e-mail address for notifications to go out from. Then if anyone replies to a notification for a PM instead of the PM itself, they'll get a bounceback e-mail which would hopefully suggest to them that they use the PM system instead. Leastwise that's what I use it for.

Now my question. Any chance this might get updated for RC5?

Thank you for the wonderful mod!  I thought I'd let everybody know that when I updated my forum from 2.0 RC5 to 2.0 Gold, I had to reinstall all my mods.  This mod installed without issues and without emulation.  Hope this info helps someone!

It does work with RC5.  I forgot if you need to use emulation to use it with RC5, though.....

After installing this mod., it would appear my server will not permit emails to be sent by my forum newsletters unless the from address is a 'valid account'@'mydomain' address.

no-reply@'mydomain' and bounce@'mydomain', etc., fail to send. ('mydomain' is of course substituted here for my actual domain name).

The error in the forum logs is:
Quoteforum/index.php?action=news;sa=mailingsend

Ran into problems sending Mail. Error: 550 Sender verify failed

Is there anything tht can be done about this please?
Thank you
Using:
v.1.1.16
Custom theme (modified SMF Default Theme - Core)
AND
v.2.0.1
Custom theme (modified Bright Forest)

Figured this out. I was using SMTP to send my emails. I had to change that to (PHP default)

This is a great MOD. I just install it on my test forum for v2.0.2 and it worked well. I was looking for a similar MOD, but with some extra features.

It would be great if a seperate email(like [email protected]) be provided to Report to moderator too. Or atleast the message is sent to the same [email protected]. Can this be done?

Ok,  I deleted all the things that it installs.  But when i send a newsletter,  it still uses that email address I set in this mod.  Where is the actual email address stored?

I dont know how much you know about navigating your database, but have a look in your db, go to where it states  'smf_settings'  and look within.
Look for something which reads  'mail_from'  and if it is there, drop/remove it.

I am using v2.0.3 and i had the same issue after uninstatting this MOD. I have two doubts related this this issue before i go ahead with the manual deletion;

  • Is it safe to remove this "mail_from" from the SMF standard smf_settings table. My only concern is, i am afraid that my forum may behave weird if i do such manual deletes.
  • And also, I guess this MOD should take care of this issue when we uninstall? Not all SMF users may have the tecnical capabilities to access their DB and do modifications.

This mod package is scheduled for update to compatibility with SMF 2.0.6 in the near future.

Most mod packages do not remove their settings because that preserves the user's ability to reinstall the package without losing their settings. In fact it's not at all unusual to have to uninstall ALL your packages to solve some problems, like updating to a later SMF version, and if mod packages removed their settings some users would have a huge problem reconfiguring things.

A couple unused settings in your smf_settings table won't harm anything. If you uninstall this mod package you can go ahead and remove all the settings it added with no problem at all.

This is a fantastic mod and works great with SMF 2.0.12

I did create a second email account for my forum [email protected]  but by simply adding SMTP settings of new account and password, this was not enough so SMF engine this to use specific mail box at sending Newsletters.

Instead SMF this kept using default domain server mail box [email protected]

After setting up the Mod, I did examine received email internet headers, so me to confirm that this mod works correctly and email headers look and are correct, and therefore these emails they will never classified as Spam.

Best method testing this mod this is sending a Forum Newsletter and use as recipient's only moderator's accounts.
While I am Admin I also have a second moderator account, for testing purposes.

I think as unjustified all complains regarding remaining settings, proper way to uninstall anything, this is first removing any settings from a mod (text field this must be clean), then save forum settings, and then uninstall the mod.

If you did uninstall a mod prior doing settings reverse to default, then install it again, insert some text as email account, then Save forum settings, delete this text, Save forum settings, and all are back to normal.

There is no reason to touch database and edit any files or lines.

Dear developer, thank you very much!!
This mod it is a significant contribution to all SMF users.
Best regards from Greece.     8)

And one last Tip for  SMF 2.0.12

Old suggestion at making email name format  do_not_reply@domain this does not work any more.
SMF email fields requiring  SMTP plus User name and Password,  does not accept ( do_not_reply)  as there is no support of underscore in user name.

Instead  use do-not-reply as this is acceptable. ;)

In my case after making all new settings,  SQL database automated inspection this shown soft issues.
After cleaning SMF forum cache,  SQL database health report this came clean.
I am not implying that this mod caused any problems,  but cleaning SMF forum cache from time to time this is always helpful.

It still works for me with my settings in the mod package plus setting up a separate email account at my host with the do_not_reply email address as a valid email account.

It makes me laugh a bit, thinking of logging into my do_not_reply account and seeing how many bounce replies I have. :) It could be thousands! It's my experience that the longer a forum exists the more bad or fake user email addresses you acquire.

But the best advice I have to offer is to set up a valid POP3-SMTP account for your do_not_reply email address. That works for me even though my do_not_reply is not coming from within my hosting provider's network.

And that is the last advice. Many hosting providers do little to verify your credentials as long as your website is located within your hosting provider's IP space. In fact I've had this work even with no valid sending account when I used to host my website from my provider's network.

In my new setup I have a dedicated server far, far away from my hosting provider (different host) but I set up a valid POP3-SMTP account and for some reason it still works. Part of it is that I have a subdomain let's call it xxx.example.com within my shared hosting account webspace (a test server) and maybe this bypasses some of their checks and allows me to assign a POP3-SMTP account within the main domain even though my email address does not include the subdomain.

Honestly I'm surprised this still works and I expect it will quit working some day maybe soon. My email server is with my shared hosting account but my forum is hosted with a dedicated server with another provider and even on a different continent!!! :)

My one final word is to put in a good word for CloudFlare. It's free for up to 5 websites and is just a fantastic service. It will accelerate your website and as an accidental byproduct due to their cacheing it makes your real server IP address difficult to find, which is a big side benefit.

We might get a bit of topic, but I have also similar setup like your own.
website server moved in to France, Mail server this is unchanged.
Now with out changing  mail settings at SMF  this is unable to correctly authenticate  with mail-server  SMTP Port 25.
My self with Server hosting administrator we give a battle for more than 12 hours,  I get  Mail. Error: 535 Incorrect authentication data.
We tried all settings and even email server reboot.
authentication data are good, they work due web mail interface and even due outlook.

When all was working I did not get many bounce replies,  only at happy birthday messages some members did reply by saying .. Thanks
